Abstract

This article analyses, from a practical perspective, the challenges and difficulties associated with the search, seizure, and preservation of digital evidence in criminal proceedings related to terrorist propaganda. It first outlines the procedural considerations derived from the Swiss Criminal Procedure Code, which define the scope of police action before and during the investigation. Building on the author’s professional experience as a gendarme with the Neuchâtel cantonal police, on an interview with specialists in digital forensics, and on internal guidelines issued by that institution, the main part of the contribution focuses on the technical aspects of collecting digital evidence.
